Been awhile but thought you all could use an update.
I became the Idaho District 4 Commander and so far it is an uphill struggle to get the members renewing and those qualified joining. Their main 'excuse' seems to be that they don't have the time to be involved so they just don't renew or join. I have only had one claim that they couldn't afford the $20 per year.
Still working on getting a 'Memorial Post' started. It will be in honor of Sgt. John (Oggie) Ogburn III who gave his life serving in Iraq with the 116th Cavalry Regiment, a National Guard Unit deployed in 2004-2005 in Iraq. It will be the first Post in the World, I believe, to honor a fallen OIF Soldier. John was also a good friend of mine.
My Post also adopted another Unit that is presently serving in Afghanistan and a special Lady/Soldier and member of my local VFW is making sure that everything we send gets distributed to the troops. She was one of my special helpers with Soldiers and families back here and in Iraq before she was deployed in February, so I have really been working to make sure that she has stuff to share as much as possible. She is also a medic and has asked that I also send toys for the Afghan kids so any that could help out let me know and I'll let you know how to ship to her.
I wish all of you a joyful and Merry Christmas and hope all will join me with special prayers to keep all those serving safe and healthy.
God Bless
Tim
