| Riviera used Demons/Angels to a large degree and still managed to kick some serious ass. If you want and RPG that breaks almost every cliche at one point or another go play Fallout. It even manages to be a sci fi RPG without mechs. |

Well.. Fallout isn't a JRPG.
@Meophist: By Knight\Princess, you mean the love part in the games (like Squall & Rinoa in FF VIII)?
And for actual knight and princess setting, there are also some FF games with that (FF IX, FF XII).
And to the Mech things. There are some old sci-fi games that have no Mechs, but the new japanese sci-fi games have Mechs.
Maybe we should stop talking about this, because we're off topic. |

| Hopefully, the Wii will win the next round. From a business standpoint, anything that curbs the trend toward more powerful (read: expensive to develop on) machines is a good thing. We're fast approaching the point where a game will cost more to build than a blockbuster movie. |

Yeah... and if the industry sees that people are willing to keep paying for the most expensive product.. i.e. Ps3, then next gen after that is sure to be even MORE expensive, which is rediculous. I am sad as it is that 360 games cost $60, and although I hear ps3 games could potentially be $70 because of BR, I doubt that will be the case because I believe that is called suicide.
I definitely hope nintendo comes back, they definatly have the encouragement now it seems, they are pulling out all the stops and it looks like they still have some tricks up their sleeve.
My only worries are the price of the Virtual Console games, and I do wish that there will be a LOT of DS to wii connectivity, along the lines of even possibly downloadable SNES/NES/GEN/TG16 games to DS, but thats a deam, I guess. I mean, if they could make a DS cart that stored stuff.. aka that slot under the flap on the wii could make it possible, it is the size of a DS game/ SD card.. anyway.. haha, I guess thats asking to much.
but yeah, the wii was definitely fun, and did not take long at all to get used to, so if they price it well, and keep coming out with a great line of games ( which they have from what we can see so far), then they will surely be a fierce competitor in the games industry once again. |

I also think that the Wii will be the best one of the 3. Like the DS showed, there are many people who are more interested in innovation and good ideas than in graphics.
And I always like to say this: GOOD GRAPHCS COSTS A LOT OF MONEY!!! |

i agree but then again i doubt the majority will be into more gameplay than graphics or admit it,graphics is the mainsteam appeal and now of the sudden its cool to play wii just cause of all the E3 hype...
i mean look at how easy people change their opinions like if we look at the cel shading use in Zelda Wind Waker being discussed and speculated...the same with the ds..with its graphics and functions and the wii and now of the sudden many love the idea... im not really too fond of wii becoming mainstream but oh well its good for nintendo |

uh, I'm pretty sure "it's cool to play wii", even though I have no idea what you're talking about, because of how fun it was at e3. yes, that might have something to do with it! |

I already have the 360, but i will replace it with the PS3 when out.
Also, to get all the features you get with the premium PS3 will cost $1050.
So in the end, its really cheaper.
XBox needs...
Base Price for Premium X360: $400
2x Hard Drives: $200
5 Year X-boxlive: $250
HD-DVD Player Add-on (Not compatable with games either): $200
Wireless Internet Adapter: $100
TOTAL: $1,150 (plus tax)
But also, it's not Price, or features that make a console better!
It's the "Fun Factor" of the games that are produced on it.
Anywho, I will get the PSTwii package.
EDIT: Also, we are no where NEAR the "Game development cost = Blockbuster movie cost"
Currently a game that takes advantage of ALL advancements in technology, and is perfect to every extent in cost is around $20Mil.
And thats for the uneeded detail that they want just because they can...like for example: "Snakes mustache alone has the same amount of poly's as one of the games soldiers"
First off, why cant they just use a distort map of a texture underneathe Snakes skin
Then also, Why would ANYONE care for that much detail?
Are we gonna soon get so detailed that me map the walls of a pour on someones face? |

There was actually an article on this same subject (not too long ago either) on Game Biz Daily, though it focused more on highlighting the problems shared by both the movie industry and the video game industry, rather than the specific numbers.
The problem? Large budgets are becoming a norm in both industries because developers believe a large budget allows the product to be competitive. Once the budget is super huge, however, the profit margin shrinks substantially. Some analysts have gone as far to say that either industry will not be able to sustain their trends of big budget projects.
Speaking of big budgets: I don't have one. I have no desire to give MS $400 to play Halo 3 or $600 to Sony to use their "computer" (if its a computer, will I be able to use MSOffice, AIM, etc etc? I thought not Sony).
So, I'm giving my business to Nintendo, in the hopes that the big budget approach will fail, allowing quality and innovation can take the lead again. |

I'm gonna have to go with the Wii. I mean, something about "599 US Dollars" just doesn't sound right. The PS3 is simply not worth the price. You get slightly better graphics, and a bunch of rehashed games, whereas with the Wii, you get a whole new experience. Of course, the Wii will have its fair share of rehashed games as well, but the majority of games for Wii will be fresh new ideas using the Wiimote. Anyway, with that set aside, there is one thing that Nintendo is doing wrong and is too stubborn to fix: Friend Codes. Seriously, Friend Codes annoy me. They see it as an innovation, I see it as a crappy online system. Seriously, how much work is it to implement screen names and lobbies with chat rooms where you can organize your own game? Hopefully if a Pokemon MMORPG is released for Wii, it won't use friend codes. I guess if I'm primarily playing offline games, it shouldn't bother me. Whatever. Go Nintendo! |
I could nearly say the same thing about survival horror games, but I won't, because they must have some sort of positive attribute if Resident Evil 4 was so highly praised.
Resident evil 4 bucks the trend of survival horror games. I absolutely detested all the other games in this series, but part 4 is a completely different animal and probably the single best game of last year. You are missing alot by not playing through this entire game. it is AMASING!! |

I can't play that because I don't have a GameCube or a PS2. Capcom is one of those great Japanese companies (same for Namco and Square) who don't like other products than Japanese ones. If they develope something for a non Japanese console than it's just because they want to make money.
For me Resident Evil 4 is more an action-horror game than a horror survival.
I play the game for some hours at a friends house.
And I wasn't really fighting to survive. |

well I've played 2 and 3 and I wasnt really fighting to survive in those games either. I spent most of those games looking for cogs and wheels and wrenches and hoses to completely ridiculously obtuse puzzles and backtracking through the same areas over and over. In resident evil 4 there are points where you are definetly fighting to survive. It's more like a zombie movie than any of the other games. at one point you're trapped in a house with another dude while waves and waves of enemies burst through the windows trying to get at you. Don't listen to somebody who hasn't really played through this game, it makes all the others look like steaming dog f*c*s. |

I've played RE 1 & 2. ... somehow only at the beginning you are fighting to survive. Till you find some good weapons. And at the boss fights.
I played RE 4 till you get to that village. And I played that merc mode. |

| RE4 is quite easy up until that first vilage, a which point it gets really intense really fast. I still remember having baracaded myself in one of the houses, and looking out the window to see someone starting a chainsaw and just thinking that Leon was about to die. |
